Our People

Thom

Environmental Control & Continuous Improvement Specialist

Previously an engineer, Thom’s passion for agriculture brought him to the cannabis industry. Today, he keeps our environment under control and makes sure the team and the plants can grow outstanding cannabis.

I grew up in an agricultural community in Southern Ontario and worked on a couple of farms during my youth. I studied engineering at the University of Guelph, but did all of my co-op work in agricultural research throughout my degree.

After graduating and a one-year internship at a consulting civil engineering firm, I returned to my agricultural roots and followed my love of plants to a greenhouse in Niagara to work at one of the largest licensed cannabis producers in Canada. Eventually I moved to United Greeneries, which made a great impression on me.

I love working with plants. I particularly love the harvest, as it’s always a fast-paced and demanding time. In the end it’s extremely rewarding to see the fruits of our labour and work in a field that produces medicine for people, especially if cannabis is the only effective relief for them.

Reed

Operations Manager

Combining biology, engineering, and industrial processes to streamline our cultivation (with 10 co-authored patents), Reed is the man who makes it all run.

I’ve been a researcher in plant science for many decades and have my name on numerous research papers published in peer-reviewed journals, as well as around 10 patents. With time, I became more and more interested in making research outcomes relevant by actualizing them through scale and implementation in industrial settings.
I love working with my colleagues at United Greeneries, working with the plants, as well as combining biology, engineering, and industrial processes. The cannabis industry is growing exponentially, which means you learn every day and make huge leaps fairly often, compared to millimetres in more established environments. For example, today, we made our milling process for one of the blends 5 times faster. In one day!
Seeing high-quality finished product go out the door and realizing it’s the successful orchestration of dozens of factors and months of effort by hundreds of people is immensely rewarding.

Mikael

Senior Grower

The source of all our cannabis knowledge, Mikael knows more about “the most diverse plant in the horticultural industry” than most, but every day he is delighted to learn even more.

When I was offered the job of a Master Grower at United Greeneries, I jumped at the chance to work with a company at the forefront of this fascinating new industry. I had one condition — that my job title would not be Master Grower.

There’s so much to learn, so many unknowns, as well as new systems and regulations to conform to. No one can call themselves a master in this burgeoning space — it’s just the beginning!

I got into the cannabis industry because of friends and family members having health issues and realizing the medical benefits of the plant, which I think is the most diverse plant in the horticultural industry. After many years at a commercial greenhouse field, I found a natural fit at United Greeneries, where I share the same vision with the team. Coming in every day and seeing the progress on crops and plants is incredibly rewarding.
